My Allergy Journey: Almost There

Today is the penultimate updose. One more session, in 3 weeks (I had to put it one extra week off due to family obligations), will be my graduation from Oral Immunotherapy at Latitude.

I’m excited, and a little nervous. Today I had my usual mix of ground Cashew and Sunflower mixed with applesauce. The amount of dose increase has been slowed down; last time, my dose totaled 2 grams; today’s dose is 2.4 grams. I’ll be measuring out 2.40 grams every day at home until the next appointment. I learned that my final dose will be a combined 3 grams.

Fun fact: The allergens are stronger when the nuts & seeds are ground up, rather than when eating a whole nut. So I might be getting 2.4 grams, but my body is feeling the effect of more.

I sat down with the Doctor and we talked about what to expect in the last session (eating an actual nut, not the ground stuff). He reiterated that this will allow me to tolerate accidental exposure, but I shouldn't expect to eat trail mix. That's OK with me.

We also spoke about my possibly extending treatment so my level of tolerance can be increased. Let's get to the finish line first, but it's intriguing.

On to the pictures!

Unlike the rainy weather of the previous updose, today was a beautiful day, the first hot day of the year with a high around 90 degrees. People walking around were sweaty and bothered—a New York vibe that I love to capture.
